The modern world and
particularly America is in a crisis. Everyday we hear more
bad news: not just in our own lives but everywhere in the
news. We are bombarded with messages like: one
in five boys are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive
Disorder, teen suicides, violence and drug abuse have sky
rocketed, one out of every two new marriages ends in divorce,
one out of every two men over 50 will suffer prostrate problems,
one out of three women will endure cancer, 65% of our population
is overweight, millions of women are clinically depressed
and dependant on psycho-active drugs to get out of bed in
the morning and millions of men depend on prescription drugs
to perform sexually in bed. ENOUGH! The list
just goes on and on. You don't need this book to remind you.

While researching
this topic over the past ten years, since I wrote the book
on Mars and Venus, I have asked the question, "How
does diet and exercise affect men and women differently?"
Most of the time even experts I have interviewed don't have
a ready answer. But as I have continued to ask more questions,
with the help of many experts and thousands of research papers,
along with years of personal experimentation, the pieces started
to come together.

I have gathered information
from little known brain chemistry research which is geared
primarily to help the mentally ill. While most people are
not brain damaged or mentally ill they do however display
certain mild symptoms that mirror the more severe symptoms
of the mentally ill.

Although many millions
of American's have been diagnosed with mental illness and
require psychoactive drugs, it is my experience and many researchers
that these people are just suffering from nutritional deficiency
as opposed to brain damage or some genetic defect. Once the
brain is fed the proper food through amino acid supplementation,
the symptoms of mental illness immediately begin to disappear,
sometimes in just days.
These brain researchers
however know very little about the issues of healthy loving
couples seeking to have lasting romance or the millions of
people who are mildly depressed seeking help to find that
extra something that is missing in there lives. Yet the same
imbalance of neuro-transmitters associated with the different
aspects of mental illness also applies to most 'normal neuroses'
that I have observed as a counselor.
Cutting
edge brain researchers know little about applying
their ideas to healing 'normal neuroses'.
While many therapists,
counselors and teachers are experts in day to day concerns
of stress management they are not experts in weight management,
health or diet. They are not aware of how nutrition affects
our mental health which in turn affects weight gain or loss.
Many teachers and
programs are great for teaching relaxation techniques and
meditation but they know much less about the importance of
exercise and diet and how it contributes to our state of mind
as well as our ability to cope with stress.
As counselors begin
using this research to assist clients with depression and
anxiety disorders as well as relationship problems, the road
to recovery will become newly paved. As a marriage counselor
I have discovered that most problems couples experience can
be resolved by educating them about the differences between
men and women.
Once
we begin to understand, accept and respect our partner's style
of communication then we can immediately become more successful
in giving and receiving love.
Yet even with these
essential insights, without a healthy diet and exercise program
to support the necessary brain chemistry, many men and women
just don't have the energy or peace of mind to put into practice
what seemed so easy in the beginning of a relationship.
Too often people join
a twelve step program and succeed in giving up an alcohol,
drug or relationship addiction only to replace it with a coffee,
smoking or sugar addiction. While certainly this is a positive
step, they will still suffer from the stress and distress
that is associated with any addictive behavior until they
balance brain chemistry. Emotional healing or recovery is
never complete until we also balance our diet and exercise
as well. Any and all addictive behaviors are symptoms of brain
imbalance.
Too often people join
a twelve step program to succeed in giving up one addiction
but then replace it with another.
Then there is the current
research about diet brilliantly expressed in many of the best
selling diet books. While there are many diet experts with unique
and effective plans for losing weight they often know little
about the ways brain chemistry or communication skills and romance
affect our eating habits. As a result many of their suggestions
temporarily work but if people are not eating to balance brain
chemistry or communicating in ways to stimulate certain hormones
it can be nearly impossible to stay on a healthy diet.
Current
diet plans say little about stimulating the correct brain

to achieve optimum health and weight management.

too hard only to lose them when they don't lose weight or
