Fibromyalgia Is A Pain in the Neck, Shoulders, Back and Legs

John Gray

Fibromyalgia affects 2 percent to 3 percent of the general population, with women affected six to nine times more frequently than men.

Fibromyalgia, also known as fibromyositis and myofascial pain syndrome, refers to a chronic condition of medically unknown cause resulting in pain in the fibrous tissues, muscles, ligaments and tendons.

Fibromyalgia has no boundaries when it comes to pain. People describe the pain as deep muscular aching, throbbing, shooting, stabbing and burning across different parts of their body. The pain is often in the neck and the shoulder muscles extending down the back but it can extend into the joints and muscles also. In addition to pain symptoms from head to toe, people with fibromyalgia also complain of poor sleep, chronic fatigue, depressed mood, headaches, and many other symptoms.

Fibromyalgia slowly develops over time. There are many causes, depending on the individual. Some form of trauma often brings the condition to the surface, but only after many months or years. Chronic stress and a nutrient poor diet is the ultimate cause for most individuals. Recent medical research has shown that many cases of fibromyalgia are caused by an underactive thyroid gland. If you are experiencing fibromyalgia, you may want to be evaluated for an underactive thyroid and treat that condition first.

People with fibromyalgia syndrome suffer not only from constant widespread pain, but they also sometimes face judgment and distrust from medical professionals who doubt if their condition is real. Doctors usually recommend pain pills, sleeping pills and possibly antidepressants when they diagnoze fibromyalgia. These can provide temporary relief, but they will do nothing for the underlying condition causing the fibromyalgia. You will probably do better if you can find an alternative health care provider who understands natural and nutritional treatments for the disorder.

If possible, would you please add some thoughts on RDS/CRPS. It's something I've lived with for 9 years.

I fought Fibromyalgia, which was extreme pain and numbness all over my body. I worked out a lot, lifting weights, rolling out my muscles and cardio. I worked out with my personal trainer 2-3 times a week for an hour and saw results. I continue now with Boot camps and using a body roller. So far so good and I am thankful for the improvements!!!! I also eat healthy, non GMO and whole foods to keep me healthy. Plenty of water. Hope this helps...although it seems easier to sit and be quiet, it is definitely worth getting out and moving. Also baths, and now I want to try the grounding!!! ...
