How To Get Rid Of Gout

John Gray

Gout is a kind of arthritis that occurs when uric acid builds up in blood and causes joint inflammation. Acute gout is a painful condition that typically affects one joint. Chronic gout is repeated episodes of pain and inflammation, which may involve more than one joint.

The exact cause of gout is unproven. Gout may run in families. It is more common in men, but also common in women after menopause, and anyone who drinks alcohol. People who take certain medicines, such as hydrochlorothiazide and other water pills, may have higher levels of uric acid in their blood.

Fortunately, gout is easy to remedy on the surface. However the deeper causes of gout require a change to your diet towards better nutrition and better vitamin supplementation. Weight loss and avoiding refined carbohydrates, such as white bread, commercially prepared baked goods and other processed foods will help minimize the risk of gout.

You should also eat foods that help reduce uric acid. Celery contains the chemical compound 3-n-butylphalide, which reduces the body's production of uric acid. Celery also reduces inflammation.
